Spurned Invitation : In 100 Words

She hesitated at first. Then, finally, she drew a long breath, summoned her courage, and asked, "Are you game for a cloud-jaunt, then?" When there was no immediate response save a slight stiffening to his shoulders, she tried again. "The moon's away, see, and the stars have all come out. I thought--"

He whirled. "You thought--?" The spat words bruised on impact. And then he seemed incapable of further speech.

She lowered her eyes before his vicious demeanor, made herself small. Turning away, she stepped quietly along the cobblestones, shoulders shivery and sagging. 

Behind her, he silently seethed.
