Her eyes crinkled, and she smiled at me fondly, head tilted. "You shan't be alone, dear one. And you had to know that dances are part of a royal's life ... like battles and taxes." She gave a gaspy little laugh, one that hinted at a smidgen of exasperation. "Did you think all a princess did was ride whiskeries and get into scrapes?"
I snorted, as only an honorary princess would. "I'd hoped." Sighing, I submitted. "What comes first -- dress fittings or dance lessons?"
