Awake : In 100 Words

They’d crept back to camp under shadow’s cover. Few words passed between them. Meri was occupied by the sudden clash of new possibilities and old dreams. Shep Eerdmair was accustomed to silence.

They both crawled into their bedrolls. Shep was asleep within moments, breathing deeply.


Determined to await Fen's return, Meri lay on her back, head propped on one arm, watching the thick-spun stars above. Moisture puddled in the corners of her eyes, then spilt over, dampening the covers beneath. Overcome by longing, she stretched one hand skyward, as if to touch the great expanse itself. Fingers splayed, heart extended.
